Chemical Applications
Plasma provides a paradigm shift for chemical processes, as a variety of gas compositions can be heated with the plasma torches. Unlike traditional applications where process temperatures are limited to traditional combustion levels, plasma can elevate temperatures two to three times higher. These higher temperatures allow an increased rate of chemical reactions reducing the number and size of process vessels.
A partial list of chemical processes that are acceptable to plasma conversion include:
- Oxygen Superheating of titanium production
- Metal oxide preparation
- Mixed Oxide processing
- Fixation of nitrogen for fertilizer processing
- Acetylene production
- Material calcining
- Production of high temperature ceramics
If the chemical process can be enhanced at elevated temperatures it is an ideal candidate for the WPC plasma technology.
